We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Reviews: We researched different specialists and read what patients had to say about them on various online platforms. We considered comments on their bedside manner, knowledge, and more.
  • Specialties: We reviewed each specialist's profile and asked their specific areas of expertise. These include knees, hips, shoulders, sports injuries, and more.
  • Credentials: We investigated how long they had been qualified as specialists whether they held senior roles in hospitals or received any awards and recognition.
  • Patient Consults: When possible, we consulted with these specialists to get a feel for their communication style and the treatments on offer.

Everybody has those moments where your body betrays you—sometimes, it’s a knee that clicks or a back that’s thrown in the towel more times than you can count.

Nobody likes it when these things happen. Unfortunately, as we age, our bodies don’t work as well as they used to.

Then comes the confusing rabbit hole of rushed appointments, medical jargon, and advice ranging from mildly unhelpful to bizarre. It’s frustrating, and it often leaves people wondering where to turn to for real solutions.

That’s why we decided to do the research for you. We looked for the best orthopaedic specialists in Auckland who can genuinely help. After all, when it comes to your bones and joints, you deserve more than just a ‘walk it off’ and a pat on the back.

How much does it cost to get orthopaedic treatment in Auckland?

It costs at least 250 NZD to get orthopaedic treatment in Auckland.

However, this price is just an estimate. The actual cost will depend on your insurance, the specialist you see, and other factors.

What struck us about Dr. Andrew Johnson was his diverse range of specialties, which include hip and knee replacements and orthopaedic oncology (bone tumors).

His work at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London equipped him to handle such cases with little to no issue.

We admire his ability to clearly and simply explain complex procedures like anterior hip surgery. Patients also love how he walks them through each step of the process.

Moreover, we value his bedside manner. He is friendly and kind and always makes his patients laugh, even on bad days.

We also appreciated the breadth of his practice, which included expertise in adult joint issues and pediatric tumor cases.

If we had to point out a downside, it would be the appointment wait times. Many told us it was frustrating to wait in the waiting room for 30 minutes or more.

Pros

  • Experience in hip/knee replacements
  • Excellent in orthopaedic oncology cases
  • Awesome communication skills
  • Positive bedside manner
  • Broad scope of practice

Cons

  • Long wait times

Kind and caring specialist

“Dr Andrew Johnston made time out of his lunch break to see me,  I had seen 5 specialists before him who were useless telling me my pain is in my head or “growing pain” He was kind & caring which is a rarity these days, he ordered a full body MRI which showed I had a broken back (L5) resulting in a fusion and disc replacement from a back surgeon. I am forever grateful that Dr Johnston found the problem, highly recommend.”
